EQUIPMENT FOR A VESSEL FOR THE MUHU STRAIT

A small vessel is a watercraft with an overall length of 2.5–24 meters (for example, a boat, sailing yacht, motorboat, and the like), used for leisure purposes, regardless of registry status. A small vessel does not include a watercraft marked accordingly by a sports federation and used for competitive sports and training (for example, a jet ski, windsurfing board, sailing yacht, racing sailboat, and the like), nor a watercraft of primitive construction (for example, a dugout boat, raft, lodi, kayak, canoe, pedal boat, and the like) or a specially constructed watercraft.

What should I check on my boat?

a) The engine needs servicing by a specialist according to the manufacturer’s instructions;
b) The fuel system, filters, and tank – these require special attention;
c) Play and lubrication in the steering system;
d) The electrical system is in working order;
e) The underwater part of the vessel and through-hull fittings are in good condition;
f) Registration numbers are intact and clearly visible;
g) Mandatory lights are present and in working order;
h) The battery is charged, secured, and the terminals are not oxidized

What should I check in rescue equipment?

1. Life jackets:
a) the life jacket compliance marking is clearly legible (CE, SOLAS);
b) I make sure the fastening straps are present and intact;
c) the fastening clips function properly, the seams are intact, and the buoyant material is undamaged;
d) gas self-inflating life jackets are properly inspected.

2. Lifebuoy or rescue sling, to ensure there is:
a) lifebuoy marking (CE, SOLAS);
b) a functioning throw line 15–25 m;
c) my vessel does not need these.

3. Life raft:
a) the life raft must be periodically inspected by an authorized representative;
b) the marking for the life raft’s location and instructions is clearly legible.

4. Fire extinguishing equipment:
a) fire extinguishing equipment on the vessel must be checked annually;
b) the fire extinguisher must be at least 2 kg;
c) a fire blanket is required on a small vessel where an open-flame heater is used;
d) a fire extinguisher is required on a vessel with any-power inboard engine or outboard engine over 25 kW;
e) it is recommended to carry a fire extinguisher on all vessels regardless of engine power.

5. Other equipment:
a) bilge pump or bailer;
b) compass, other navigation equipment;
c) practical testing of the VHF communication device;
d) suitable anchor with anchor line;
e) mooring lines, fenders;
f) waste collection containers;
g) oars/paddle according to the small vessel;
h) some tools and necessary spare parts;
i) any other equipment I consider necessary
