Pike Fishing with ActiveTarget — Why I Watch Two Screens at Once
In between, all kinds of fish were caught, but this time we went pike fishing on a larger lake. It turned out to be an active day and the weather was beautiful.
Twelve pike in one day
I didn’t count exactly, but about 12 pike came through the boat. The average size was respectable — from 70 cm up to 90 cm. All the bigger pike were released, and we took a couple of smaller ones for dinner.
We also caught one pike on video, an approximately 85 cm fish.
Forward vs Scout — which one shows the fish on the bottom?
I also did a small comparison showing what Scout (Perspective) View on ActiveTarget is needed for. Especially when you’re pike fishing near the bottom.
I put together 2 images that were taken at the same time. On the left is Forward view, where the pike on the bottom can be seen. On the right is Scout view, where the same pike is circled.

If you look only at Forward, it’s really hard to tell what that bump on the bottom is. Even if you can identify that it is a fish, you still can’t tell what species it is.
But in Scout view, it’s very clear that this is an elongated fish, and even the tail is visible. 100% pike.
So this is one of the reasons why I look at two screens at once. With Forward alone, it’s very hard to identify fish on the bottom.
